Demonstration in front of Representative Emerson's Office
August 2, 2011
On Tuesday August 2nd at noon, just as the US Senate was voting on the Debt Ceiling Bill, several area residents demonstrated in front of U.S. Representative JoAnn Emerson’s West Plains, Missouri office over the passage of that Bill. The demonstrators voiced concerns on several issues including the way in which congress as a whole failed to act until the country was near default, leaving programs such as Medicare and Medicaid in jeopardy when the Super Committee meets for the second round of cuts, and not considering any revenue increases such as closing tax loop holes for corporations and not raising taxes on the wealthiest 1%. After the demonstration, several of those in attendance went to Representative Emerson’s office to leave messages voicing their concerns.
